Section 19 of 21
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Circuits, machines, signals, electronics, digital logic, and networking
- p356-418page range
- 63pages long
- 24subsections
- 60drill items
What the section holds
The second largest section. Units and electrostatics, source equivalents, capacitors and inductors, AC circuits, transients, resonance, AC power including three-phase and transformers and rotating machines, electromagnetic dynamic fields, transmission lines, difference equations and convolution, digital signal processing, communication theory, analog filters, operational amplifiers, solid-state devices, number systems, Boolean algebra, flip-flops, a long computer networking block covering the internet protocols, communication methodologies, computer systems, and software engineering.
Why it matters for your exam
Electrical and Computer candidates draw almost everything from this one section, and it is over sixty pages spanning subjects as far apart as motor design and IPv6 headers.
How to navigate it
Think of it as three books stacked together: circuits and machines first, signals and electronics in the middle, digital and computing at the end. A networking question and a transformer question are forty pages apart. Note also that control systems are not here at all, they are in the instrumentation section.

Disciplines that use this section
Page numbers here are read from handbook version 10.5 (seventh printing, April 2025), which runs to 502 pages. NCEES revises the handbook and page numbers move with it, which is why the drill asks which section a topic lives in rather than which page. Check the version of your own copy, downloaded free from NCEES.
